This happened almost a week ago but I had no idea that Mos Def told MTV that as of 2012 he would be going by the name Yasiin. He was quoted as saying, “I’m retiring the Mos Def name after 2011.”
Ice T has a film that will air on VH1 on 9/18 called Planet Rock. The film’s focus is on how some of the biggest names in hip-hop moved from the crack game to the rap game. Ice T had this to say in reference to his current position in the rap game and why he did the film:
“I got a word I use in my life now, which is ‘important,’” he said. “And right now, at my age, I’m not doing anything that I don’t think is important. I’m not doing pop shit, I don’t like pop shit, I’m not trying to be popular. This film is important. That’s the kind of work I’m trying to do for the rest of the way out” (RollingStone.com)
